The award winning puppet theatre company was established by Kálmán Nagy Kopeczky in 1998 as a separate section within Tamási Áron theatre in Sepsiszentgyörgy in Transylvania, Romania. In 2008 it gained it’s current name : Cimborák meaning pal or companion in Hungarian.
It’s goal is to develop quality puppet theatre for the community of Sepsiszentgyörgy and Kovászna County. The use of Hungarian folklore, folk stories and cultural heritage has a paramount importance within their work, which has identity forming, cultural and community building characteristics.
Following in the the footsteps of Elek Apo (Benedek Elek) it is essential for the Cimborák Puppet Theatre Company to work with traditional folk tales in order to enable the community, both young and old to learn about and cherish folk tales throughout their lives.
