Róza Hárs founded Tilia in 2022 in order to perform her songs together with a band. After continuous searching, the current quintet was assembled in January 2024. Three-quarters of the ensemble’s programme consists of their own compositions, songs crafted fundamentally with the tools of jazz.
Playing an important role are the lyrics, which – in both Hungarian and English and often with a touch of irony – reflect how life has impacted their author. The improvisational elements of the songs harmoniously complement the pre-composed melodies and rhythms. The songs they have chosen to cover are ones with a key message, serving as a source of inspiration for the band members.
The band's original compositions are built on the rich toolkit of jazz, employing dynamic sounds and a fresh approach. The Hungarian and English lyrics reflect the composer's most inspiring life moments with humor and irony. Their concerts offer a unique experience, made distinctive by improvisations and musical nuances, ensuring each performance is a new discovery for the audience.
The band members are: Róza Hárs (vocals), Kapolcsi-Szabó Levente (piano), Csaba Nagy Czirok (saxophone), Máté Horváth (drums), Sándor Suke (bass guitar).
