Bekecs Dance Theatre of Nyárádszereda is one of Transylvania’s most vibrant ambassadors of Hungarian folk culture. With roots dating back to 1997, the ensemble has grown from a local youth group into a highly respected professional company known for its powerful stage presence, artistic authenticity, and deep dedication to preserving tradition.
Bekecs brings the spirit of Transylvania to life through energetic choreography, rich musical heritage, and beautifully crafted performances that honour centuries‑old customs. While their work focuses strongly on local and regional folk traditions, the ensemble also embraces dances and cultural elements from across the Carpathian Basin, creating diverse and captivating productions.
Recognised nationally for their artistry — including reaching the finals of the acclaimed Fölszállott a Páva talent competition — Bekecs performs around ninety shows annually, touring both Transylvania and Hungary and reaching communities often overlooked by larger cultural institutions. Beyond the stage, they play a key role in nurturing the next generation through extensive folk dance education programmes, now supporting over 500 young dancers.
