National Federation of Hungarians (MAOSZ)

The National Federation of Hungarians (MAOSZ), a charity registered in England and Wales (charity number: 1174243), has been serving as an umbrella organization since 2017. The organization itself was established in 1992 by Hungarian immigrants to the UK and operated as an unincorporated association until its registration.

Our Mission and Activities

MAOSZ is dedicated to promoting various charitable purposes for the benefit of the public across England and Wales. Our core objectives include:

  • Advancing education by offering training in the Hungarian language, history, and geography.
  • Promoting Hungarian arts, culture, and heritage through educational programs, training, and celebrations of traditions and customs.
  • Fostering citizenship and community development by encouraging knowledge and mutual understanding among diverse ethnic groups.

How We Operate

MAOSZ primarily carries out its activities by supporting its 52 member organizations, many of which are Saturday schools and cultural organizations located throughout the UK. We also provide direct support to these organizations when appropriate. All of our office holders are volunteers based in the UK.

We host our own events, such as an annual teacher training conference specifically designed for Saturday schools. Additionally, we co-organize events like the Welsh-Hungarian Friendship Day in Montgomery, which is also an annual occurrence. MAOSZ also facilitates an annual meeting for community leaders, providing a vital platform for networking and collaboration. We feel very privileged to be part of Gobefest in a modest way and hope to continue our cooperation in the future.
